I'd have to say that sitting in front of a fire knitting while your kids play nicely in the basement is a fantastic way to start a new year. That's just what I got to do today, courtesy of my friend who has both a fireplace and a basement. Since I have neither of those things, it was awfully kind of her to supply them to me for the day, along with her kids for my kids to play with and her husband to chop wood and stoke the fire, since my husband was busy elsewhere.
But the sock that I'm knitting is less than thrilling, and my mind is all full of other things I'd rather knit (mainly things I want to knit on the machine, which happens to officially belong to this friend, but which lives at my house for now). But knitting on the machine requires time to stand before it and knit, and since school starts again tomorrow that is really out of the question for now.
Here's hoping for a ridiculously smooth transition out of the holiday spirit and back to the homeschooling one; a transition which will allow for speedy morning schoolwork and afternoon machine knitting.
